Probability & Statistics
Math Camp · Modules 7–10
The second half of camp continues into probability and statistics — the direct on-ramp to V706. Each module runs theory in the morning and computing in the afternoon.
The Slides column lists every deck for that day: the M-deck is the morning theory session and the W-deck is the afternoon computing session. Module 7 also lists W1, the install-and-setup deck to work through before camp starts, and module 9 carries a short evening deck (M4) on the named distributions.
| Module | Date | Topic | Slides |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 | Aug 11 | Probability & random variables | M1 · W1 · W2 |
| 8 | Aug 12 | Expectation, variance & moments | M2 · W3 · W4 |
| 9 | Aug 13 | Covariance, correlation & distributions | M3 · M4 · W5 |
| 10 | Aug 14 | Sampling distributions, LLN & CLT | M5 · W6 |
The problem sets and solutions are taken down between camps. They will be reposted for next summer’s camp.
Work the modules in order — each builds on the previous. Readings for each module are listed in the syllabus. Write your own R rather than having it written for you. The bugs and the error messages are the curriculum, not an obstacle to it.
Get R and RStudio installed before Module 7: start with W2 and the Computing Setup guide. The full computing track, including Git, is on the Workflow & Coding page.
